Nothing Funny About This

Published January 19, 2009 by glaumland

Grrrrr…here we go again. Another bad day. I don’t know what is going on, but I hurt all over. Kids were home from school today and were real angels- entertaining themselves while I slept in bed. Not that I feel any better after getting up, but at least when you’re asleep, it doesn’t hurt so bad.

Since I’ve been asleep today, I have heard any news. Thank goodness on that, because I am so sick of the hype around the inauguration. And I’m glad I’m working tomorrow, since that’s all that will be on TV. I wonder when the media will start to turn on their “darling” BHO? All I can say is thank goodness for atlasshrugs & nicedeb, otherwise I would go nuts looking for real news.

Well, guess I’ll close for now. Until next time…

Tag – You’re It!

Published January 17, 2009 by glaumland

Well, it’s been the end of a good day with family. Didn’t get a whole lot accomplished, but I guess we did it all together.

Little girl is taking karate classes. She’s had a couple classes and already looks comfortable and more confident. This is really good for her. Can’t wait until little boy can do it as well. DH wants so bad to do it, I can tell, but doesn’t think he is ready for it yet. Maybe soon…

DH is trying to talk me into getting a calf – nooooooo! Give me goats any day. They are fun. Mozzarella was out with the kids today and carrying on running and jumping around. Now DH thinks he can make money with goats. Oh, no…

But I shouldn’t complain because DH was able to put a pre-signal booster on the new attic antenna, so our DTV converter box has more channels and better signals – it’s almost like cable! WOW! Now we’ll really be hitting the PBS shows more often.

I’m going to try to start using tags when I blog. Just another way to spread info.

Although why anyone wants to hear my thoughts and ideas is beyond me, but maybe someone is crazy enough to want to know about my crazy little world. For my friends it would be a great way to keep up with me.

Well, I’d better close this down…family in bed and tomorrow’s church.

Until next time…

The Entertainment Value of Catnip

Published January 16, 2009 by glaumland

Well, the cat craziness is still ongoing in Glaumland. I decided to be somewhat proactive (or maybe sneaky?) and bought the cats a cat tree. I know it was scented with catnip, and now the cats are climbing the tree and not the furniture. Ha! I am smarter than cats (but maybe not – they’re still living in my home on my dime!).

Kiddo’s are home from school today. Good thing. It is cold and snowy outside. Looks pretty but glad we don’t have to be out in it. They still have lots of interest in their Christmas stuff, so they aren’t too bored. Plus they got to sleep in. It just doesn’t seem like they’ve gotten back in their regular patterns since Christmas. Me, neither.

DH is now trying to talk me into getting a calf. Like I need another critter to take care of. I gave in on the goats and actually really enjoy them, but enough is enough. Although a freezer full of beef would be nice…but no, I must be strong!

Silly cats have now just in the last 5 minutes decided it is nap time. I wonder if the catnip throws the cats into some kiind of weird time distortion or alternate universe, or something. I’ll watch and see what happens.

Until next time…

Long Tails & Short Tempers

Published January 15, 2009 by glaumland

Grrrr – I knew there would be days like this…

The cats (especially the kittens) are inside because of the cold & going stir crazy. And I mean C-R-A-Z-Y! They are tearing around the house looking for invisible mice & bunnies to attack, are stalking the cockatiel, having climbing contests, destroying the TP, and just being general menaces! It’s driving me crazy. Luckily found a cat tree on sale yesterday and put it together this morning. Hopefully it will take some of the P&V out of them. Even the old fat boy Captain Lewis is in the fray (sitting on the tree top looking down at everyone) & Maybelline acts like she wants to play, but of course she is too prissy to act like a common cat. If I felt better it would actually be funny.

Yeah, not only is it soooo cold outside, I feel like crap. The rheumatologist warned me that during the big weather/pressure changes my fibromyalgia would probably act up, but this is awful. Guess I’ll just load up on drugs and watch the cats – don’t feel like doing anything else.

Kids are going nuts, too. So whiny & contrary this morning. Guess they aren’t getting enough outdoor time, but attitude is the last thing I want right now. Glad they’re in school today, but a four day weekend is coming up.

I am managing to get some things in order, or back in order. Every since we moved my desk to the living room so little boy could have his own room, it has been a disaster. So going through the file cabinets and purging stuff, as well as sorting stuff to file. Hopefully, tax season will be a breeze this year.

(Oh man, somebody just used the cat box – phew!)

Well, guess I’d better close. Don’t want to wallow in self pity, and need to check the fire. At least we’re staying warm in this wretched cold.

Until next time…

Resolved or Resolute?

Published January 11, 2009 by glaumland

I’m hoping for both, would accept either, but feel like I have neither after this week. I’ve spent the first part of the year with the upper respiratory stuff that is going around. I must say it is much easier to rest up with kids back in school, but sleeping the hours away doesn’t go far in getting my life organized. Oh well, I guess baby steps are better than no steps.

I do think I have a couple of books on organization, I just don’t know where they are right now. Ha, ha, ha – makes me want to laugh/cry.

I did set my mind & my fingers to do some crocheting lately. I finished a scarf for a lovely young lady that I work with. She’s very super and I just wanted to do something nice for her. I’ve also been making potholders for another friend – her birthday is coming soon and she was mentioning she needed some. I enjoy trying out new patterns, and I especially love that pot holders are finished quickly. Definitely my kind of project.

We had a nice day yesterday so I did go out and play with my pony some. I think we both enjoyed it. A little more play time and I’ll climb on board. It’s been so long…

I had fun tonight with the cats, too. Found a fuzzy (fake) mouse and covered it in catnip. Capt Lewis forgot he was old & stuffy for a few minutes and acted like the kittens. Kittens just acted normal (crazy, like). Forgot to mention that Baron von Broccoli brought in a male cardinal yesterday. I was able to rescue him before he was too injured and he bit my finger. OUCH, that hurt!

Goats are great; glad to have Ginger back from her conjugal visit to Duke. The girls enjoy walking in the back pasture and woods with us. Amazing that old dead leaves could taste so yummy.

Grady the turkey went and got oil on his head somehow today; makes him look weird. I had a little run-in with the big rooster and convinced him I was still bigger & meaner than him.

Well, I guess this turned into a chat more about critters than resolutions. I resolve to write more about that (and more often as well).

Until next time…

Finding Things Where They Don’t Belong

Published January 8, 2009 by glaumland

OK – Yesterday was the culmination of a period of time (maybe another dimension) where everything is in the wrong place. Kinda reminds me of a “Twilight Zone”. There have been all sorts of things in the wrong place, and I kind of feet in the middle of “I Spy Glaumland” or something similar.

As for DH, socks and clothes all over the house, not to mention the dishes when he cooks. Thank goodness he is a great cook, because he forms a great mess as well.

Little kids have been there as well. Now that they each hve their own room, the idea is for their stuff to stay IN their room, or at least LAND there once a day (particularly before bedtime). But we keep trying on organization and see how it goes.

My darling cats are driving me crazy. What have I found recently in my house, you may ask? 2 mice in some form between live playtoy and half eaten, voles (the mini form of moles), and MOLES (yes, the really big form of moles – that while attractive pelt-wise, their odd faces and feet and deadly countenance rather creep me out! And perhaps the most exciting find was the sparrow bomb that went off in my front hallway. BOOM! Feathers everywhere. The sparrow itself did not entirely detonate, so the bomb disposal unit (me) ended up on the hazmat team to dispose of parts & peices.

Then fast forward to work yesterday. Started out kinda normal (thank goodness) because it didnt’ stay that way. We had a small dog with large bladder stones – they’ll be exiting tomorrow (personally, I think they would make stylish earrings!). Next, another small dog that has what appears to be joint mice in her good knee. We’ll see what happens there.

And finally, the adorable and sweet calico kitten that needs a home who had nasopharyngeal polyp (think of these this way – a giant piece of cauliflower on a stalk that starts in the middle ear, grows through the ear drum, and continues to grow until it sticks out the ear. Way fun surgery, maybe not for cat. But with lots of TLC and pain meds and some luck and prayers, she should be ok.

Then there are all of the really mundane things like: daughter taking socks, dvd’s in wrong case, stacks of papers all over my desk…and many other things but my eyes are tired. Guess it’s time to close for now.

Until next time…

Living in a Gingerbread Land

Published January 5, 2009 by glaumland

Christmas break is almost over and kids go back to school tomorrow. It has been a great break, and the kids really enjoyed playing with gifts and visiting relatives.

The nominees in the Best Gift Category are: Doll House, Knee High Boots, Jewelry, Computer Desk, Train Anything, Socks (now that dear daughter’s feet are getting bigger, my socks keep disappearing – always need more!) and Vinyl Wall Art.

And the winner is…Gingerbread creations! Thanks to a wonderful gal that I work with, the kids had a gingerbread house and train to assemble. So DH helped them last night and we had a scrapbook moment. The only problem with gingerbread creations is that they are as fun to take apart (and eat the candy piece by piece) as to put together. Also the kids & I have been on a sugar high all day (but like I said, back to school tomorrow! Sorry teachers!).

Always enjoy spending time with family at the holidays, even though some family we don’t see as often now that their families are growing and celebrating in their homes. The best part was having my best friend (who is actually more like a sister to me and a daughter to my parents) spend Christmas day with us. She is so special to me, even if there have beens some ups and downs in our relationship. And her family is great too.

Speaking of great people, DH really pulled it off this year. Some beautiful jewelry for momma and time spent on gifts for kids – he couldn’t have done any better. Always a blessing to marry someone who is not just a great man & husband, but also a friend and father. I probably don’t tell him enough, but one of my resolutions is to work on that this year.

Oh, gosh. Resolutions! Got to get working on them as we’re already a week into the New Year. But that’s another post.

Until next time…
